In the Classroom
Suffolk County Legislator Tom Barraga (R-West Islip) recently toured The Bridges Academy which is a brand new Independent Private School in West Islip servicing children from toddlers through 8th grade. The School is a grass roots effort of Parents, Teachers, and the Head Master to build a School on the South Shore after their old school St. Peter’s Day School in Bay Shore was closed in June. Currently the school has approximately 175 students enrolled, saved over 30 teacher jobs, and are leasing an empty school building from the West Islip School District.
Bridges’ comprehensive program lays the foundation for a lifetime of learning and achieving. The Bridges Academy is dedicated to educating and inspiring their students to reach their fullest potential both academically and spiritually and to become productive and positive contributors in their local communities and worldwide. The academy represents our evolution toward the modern, world-class school worthy of the name Bridges. Their curriculum has a strong focus on languages, reading, writing, mathematics, arts and music, all content-rich but without sacrificing creativity and imagination. Their curriculum is aimed at integrating all the activities of the school toward creating a student culture that brings together the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional and spiritual development of the students in a holistic way.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the school this week to celebrate the opening as well as the dedication of their parents, teachers, and headmaster in getting the school ready for the upcoming year in such a timely manner. Additional information on the school can be obtained at www.thebridgesacademy.net.
